Rohit Sharma hails T Dilip for his stint as fielding coach — You created magic

Former India captain Rohit Sharma on Monday hailed T. Dilip’s contribution as a fielding coach after the latter was replaced in the role by Subhadeep Ghosh.

“You are a legend, Dilip guru. You created magic within the group and [you are] a behind the scenes workhorse. Best wishes ahead,” Rohit wrote on his Instagram story.

Dilip served as India men’s fielding coach under both Rahul Dravid and Gautam Gambhir, from 2021 until the conclusion of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He returned for a second stint during India’s Test tour of the UK in 2025 on a one-year contract but was not retained after it expired.

During his stint, India won two T20 World Cups, in 2024 and 2026, and the ODI Champions Trophy in 2025.

Dilip came up with the idea of a fielding medal award during the ODI World Cup. The initiative was widely appreciated by fans for the innovative ways in which the winner was revealed.
