Indian legspinner Rahul Chahar made a brief return to English domestic cricket, going wicketless as Surrey was knocked out of the One-Day Cup after suffering defeat to Nottinghamshire in its final group game.

Chahar played one match for the club in the County Championship in 2025 and made an immediate impression by recording 8-15 in the second innings, the best First-Class figures on debut for Surrey.

He had also been signed for Surrey’s final eight games of the County Championship, the first of which came against Glamorgan in June. He took three wickets in the match but could not prevent a seven-wicket defeat.

Despite not initially being expected to play the One-Day Cup, he was called into the squad as a replacement along with Jason Roy and Dan Worrall — both of whom were returning from The Hundred.

However, the trio could not prevent a six-wicket defeat on the day. Despite openers Ryan Patel and Dom Sibley scoring 102 and 84 respectively, Surrey could only post 298/8 in its 50 overs. Chahar fell for a second-ball duck.

The target of 299 proved a simple one for Nottingham, led a 132-ball 138 from George Munsey (who has represented Scotland) and assisted by fifties from captain Hameed Haseeb and South Africa international Kyle Verreynne.

Chahar finished with figures of none for 57 from his 10 overs.
