Lasith Malinga named Sri Lanka men’s team’s fast bowling consultant on short-term basis
His appointment, however, is only on a short-term basis to help the team in its preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Malinga, who started working with the side on December 15, will continue to offer his services until January 25, 2026.

“Malinga will support the preparation and development of Sri Lanka’s national fast bowlers as part of the build-up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Sri Lanka Cricket aims to leverage Malinga’s vast international experience and renowned expertise in death bowling, particularly in the shortest format of the game, to strengthen Sri Lanka’s preparations for the upcoming World Cup,” a statement read.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, co-hosted by Sri Lanka and India, will commence on February 7 next year, with the opening match scheduled to be played at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.
