Vijay Hazare Trophy: Yashasvi Jaiswal set to join Mumbai squad ahead of Goa fixture

Yashasvi Jaiswal is set to be available for Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy group league fixture against Goa on Wednesday.

The India international missed out on the initial matches as he was recovering from acute gastroenteritis.

While there were speculations that he could be available for the game against Chhattisgarh, sources have confirmed that the batter will link up with the team here on Monday evening. “He is absolutely fine now, and his presence will be a huge boost for Mumbai,” a team source told Sportstar.

Last week, Jaiswal was rushed to a hospital in Pune, shortly after Mumbai’s last Super League fixture of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, as he complained of stomach cramps. Medical investigations revealed that it was a case of acute gastroenteritis, and he was advised a week’s rest before resuming training. With Rohit Sharma playing the first two games of the tournament and opening the innings, the team management did not rush Jaiswal into the side.

Jaiswal is likely to play a couple of more games after the Goa match as well, depending on whether he is picked for the New Zealand series.

Meanwhile, Punjab captain Abhishek Sharma is set to be back against Uttarakhand, after having missed out on the previous outing against Chhattisgarh.

Abhishek had a long training session at the Anantam ground on Sunday, where he faced spinners, and bowled some left-arm spin. In the opening game, against Maharashtra, Abhishek scored 48 as his team won by 51 runs.
