Ola Electric business head for cell resigns citing personal commitments

Chaturvedi, who was designated as senior management personnel, said he stepped down due to personal commitments, the electric vehicle maker said in a disclosure to stock exchanges.
In his resignation letter addressed to Chief Executive Officer Bhavish Aggarwal, Chaturvedi wrote: “This decision has been taken due to personal commitments, and I step down with the highest respect and appreciation for the organization.”
The company did not announce an immediate successor or outline changes to its cell business following the exit.
The Bengaluru-based company, which manufactures electric scooters and battery cells, has been expanding its in-house cell capabilities as part of its broader push to localize key components and reduce costs.
Ola recently announced its 4680 Bharat Cell, an indigenously developed lithium-ion battery designed to power its electric vehicles more efficiently and at lower cost.

The term 4680 refers to the physical size of the cylindrical battery cell—about 46 mm in diameter and 80 mm in height—making it significantly larger than the older 2170 cell format (21 mm by 70 mm) commonly used in EVs today.
Because the 4680 cell is bigger, it can store much more energy in a single unit, reducing the number of cells needed in a battery pack. Ola says the Bharat Cell delivers around five times the energy density per cell compared with conventional 2170 cells.
Energy density simply means how much energy a battery can store relative to its size or weight—higher energy density allows an electric vehicle to travel farther on a single charge without making the battery heavier or bulkier.
Ola Electric in December said it had begun mass deliveries of its 4680 Bharat Cell power vehicles.
Its flagship two-wheeler S1 Pro+ (5.2kWh) was the first product to be powered by the cell. More recently, Its flagship electric motorcycle, Roadster X+, powered 4680 cell, has received government certification, and the company will start deliveries of the model.
