Ranveer Singh is on a high thanks to his brilliant performance in Dhurandhar. The film is already the biggest hit of Indian cinema of 2025 and also the all-time highest grosser for Bollywood. However, just before the release, the actor landed in trouble after imitating a scene from Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: A Legend Chapter – 1 at the closing ceremony of the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Goa, in the presence of the actor. Ranveer stuck his tongue out and imitated the sacred Daiva scene from the Kannada film and called the local folk gods Daiva a ‘female ghost’. It led to a lot of trolling and a few days later, the actor sincerely apologized for his actions. In an interview with Pune Times, acclaimed director Madhur Bhandarkar opened up about this controversy.

When asked about the episode, Madhur Bhandarkar said, “I felt that he (Ranveer Singh) took it a little too far. That said, he owned up to it and apologized, which is commendable. I think he was praising the performance and got lost in the flow. In the process, he crossed a line.”

Meanwhile, in a recent interview with ETimes, Madhur Bhandarkar showered praises on Ranveer Singh for his performance in Dhurandhar. He stated, “I loved him because I just felt that the role required a lot of restraint in the character, and he did it. And sometimes he is just in the background. And that also, he performed so well. In the foreground, you have Akshaye and other people, and he performed so well. And the close-up was shot so brilliantly.”

While talking about Akshaye Khanna, Madhur Bhandarkar talked highly of his performance in Dhurandhar as well as Chhaava, “It was a masterclass for any actor. The body language, the nuances, the kind of work he has done. Fab, fab, fab is an understatement. It’s brilliant. I really, really, really loved it.”
