Trade experts predict Ramayana, Dhurandhar 2, King, Love & War, Drishyam 3 can be BIGGEST hits of 2026: “Ramayana can collect Rs. 1000 cr in India…even if Dhurandhar 2 releases with ZERO publicity, it’ll open with a BANG…Alpha will be a film to watch out for”Trade veteran Taran Adarsh smiled and said, “I am a born optimist! I expect a lot from the first release of 2026, Ikkis and also King, Battle Of Galwan, Ramayana, Love & War etc. – the line-up is super impressive. Hence, I hope the business really jumps next year.”
A film that everyone is confident about is Dhurandhar 2, especially after the first part became the biggest hit of 2025 and also of Hindi cinema. Taran Adarsh predicted, “It’ll be an event when Dhurandhar 2 releases in cinemas.”
Trade analyst Atul Mohan exulted, “All the biggies sound promising. Dhurandhar 2, King, Ramayana and Love & War have huge potential. Dhurandhar has generated such a wave that the makers don’t even need to do any marketing for the sequel. They can simply drop their film in cinemas and it would still open with a bang.”
Raj Bansal predicted, “According to me, 2026 can be the biggest year of Hindi cinema. It might be better than 2023. This is because a lot of grand, promising films are scheduled for release. I have the highest hopes for Ramayana. I also have high hopes from Dhurandhar 2, Drishyam 3, King and Love & War.”
He added, “My highest hopes are from Ramayana. If you ask me whether it can collect Rs. 1000 crores net in India, I would say, ‘anything is possible’. It’s the correct film as per the mood of the nation. The TV show ‘Ramayan’ had generated a similar kind of craze. People used to install a TV set even in marriages to watch the serial! Such was the impact of its subject, storytelling and star cast. Ramayana also seems to be in the same lines. It is mounted on a huge scale. I am sure they’ll not leave any stone unturned when it comes to the VFX.”
Girish Johar agreed, “1000% 2026 will be better as there are so many films lined up for release. Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh – almost everyone has a promising film. However, I am extremely bullish on Ramayana. I am sure it’ll break all records at the box office. It’ll be a big Diwali bonanza. Dhurandhar 2 also has huge potential.”
Love & War, particularly, was mentioned by trade experts. Taran Adarsh called its director Sanjay Leela Bhansali his “most favourite” and said, “What a year this would be for Ranbir. He has Love & War followed by Ramayana. He’s an actor whom I am quite fond of; he’s a brilliant performer.”
Atul Mohan added, “Love & War stars Ranbir after the blockbuster Animal and Vicky Kaushal after the blockbuster Chhaava. In fact, Ranbir has two major films. Hence, next year will be very exciting.”
Taran Adarsh then spoke highly of Border 2, “Sunny Deol seems to be back in form. I have the highest regards for J P Dutta. I have interacted with him on several occasions. I genuinely wish the film works for him. I hope it’s a blockbuster just like Border (1997).”
He also placed his bets on Raja Shivaji, “That is one film that I am confident about. Riteish is a very good actor as well as a director. I am sure that he will give the best to his film.”
On the other hand, Girish Johar said, “Awarapan 2 can be the dark horse.” Taran Adarsh explained, “Awarapan (2007) did not get the due as it clashed with Apne and Aap Kaa Surroor though it was a beautiful film. It was one of the finest films of Mohit Suri and Emraan Hashmi. I hope this one delivers the punch that one would expect from this series.”
However, Raj Bansal confessed, “I am not that excited for it. It’ll all depend on how popular its music is. If music works, the film will also be at an advantage.”
The popular veteran actors, Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar, will again have multiple films. Ajay will be seen in Dhamaal 4, the jungle adventure film (reportedly titled Ranger) and above all, Drishyam 3. As for Akshay, he will be seen in the horror comedy Bhooth Bangla, the thriller Haiwaan and the grand comic caper, Welcome To The Jungle.
All of them predicted that Drishyam 3 will be a film to watch out for, especially after Drishyam 2 (2022) collected more than Rs. 200 crores. Atul Mohan said, “Ajay and Akshay are the only ones who are coming up with multiple films in a year. This shows that there’s a lot of faith in their star power among the investors.”
Girish Johar said, “Haiwaan would be very exciting. It stars Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan and is directed by Priyadarshan. That would be big.”
Taran Adarsh spoke highly of Akshay, “Look at the versatility of the actor even in 2025. He was superb in Kesari Chapter 2 and also in Jolly LLB 3, Sky Force and Housefull 5. No one can claim that he’s getting typecast or that he’s getting repetitive.”
Kartik Aaryan will have two releases – Naagzilla and Anurag Basu’s untitled next. Taran Adarsh said that he’s confident that these two films won’t suffer a similar fate like his 2025 romcom, “I feel both the movies will take him to a wider audience, while Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri was very metro-centric. But those films will take him to centres where mass heroes are born and worshipped.”
Atul Mohan said that Naagzilla is promising, “There has not been a film on a naag for a long time. The biggest hit of Sridevi’s career is Nagina (1986). Ekta Kapoor’s show, ‘Naagin’, is also loved by the public. Hence, it can make for a different experience.”
Finally, Alpha is being panned on the internet, but the trade experts said that the YRF Spy Universe film, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, can surprise. Atul Mohan exulted, “Alpha can be India’s answer to Charlie’s Angels. However, the conversation right now is that a spy film should be like Dhurandhar. The film has been pushed again. I am sure that they will work on understanding what they can do so that the film’s prospects are brighter.”
Raj Bansal agreed, “I feel Alpha will be a film to watch out for.” He also shared his excitement of the other female-centric film of 2026, also backed by Yash Raj Films, “Mardaani 3 has the potential to do huge business. Even the second part was a success.”
Some more films also seem promising, like Shahid Kapoor’s O Romeo and Cocktail 2, Varun Dhawan’s comic caper Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, Sunny Deol’s emotional drama Gabru, Sidharth Malhotra-Tamannaah Bhatia’s Vvan, Shraddha Kapoor’s period flick Eetha, Lakshya-Janhvi Kapoor-Tiger Shroff starrer Lag Jaa Gale, Aneet Padda’s horror comedy, Shakti Shalini, John Abraham-Rohit Shetty’s untitled next, Rajkummar Rao’s legal biopic Nikam, Imtiaz Ali’s Diljit Dosanjh-Sharvari-Vedang Raina starrer, etc.
Atul Mohan said that besides these films, there might be some more which will be ‘out of syllabus’ successes. He remarked, “Some films will surprise. Did anyone expect a newcomer like Saiyaara to do such business?”
Taran Adarsh signed off by saying, “I think this is going to be a very different year in terms of content. Let’s hope 2026 delivers those numbers. It’s very important for the health of our film industry.”
