Tata Sierra with 1.5L Hyperion engine sets India record with 29.9 kmpl mileage

The Tata Sierra has set a new fuel-efficiency benchmark, entering the India Book of Records for maximum fuel efficiency achieved in 12 hours. In a certified run at NATRAX, Indore, the Hyperion-powered Sierra recorded 29.9 kmpl, surpassing the previous national mark.According to Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, the run was conducted on November 30, 2025, by the Pixel Motion team, which drove the 1.5-litre Hyperion petrol variant continuously from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, stopping only for brief driver changes.
According to the company, its 1.5L Hyperion engine uses an advanced combustion system, a wide torque band, and friction-optimised components designed to maintain efficient fuel delivery and stable performance over long durations.

Tata Motors’ 1.5L Hyperion engine is used in its Sierra SUV.

Mohan Savarkar, Chief Product Officer at Tata Motors,  said, “Setting a national efficiency record so early in the Sierra’s journey is a proud moment for us. The Hyperion engine platform was built to push the boundaries of what petrol powertrains can achieve, and this milestone validates that effort.”

In a parallel test under specified track conditions at NATRAX, the Sierra also achieved a top speed of 222 km/h, demonstrating the performance range of the same engine.

Tata Motors stated that the fuel-efficiency and top-speed tests were carried out by trained drivers in controlled environments, and the vehicles delivered to customers will be electronically limited to 190 km/h in line with safety standards.
