WPL 2026: Gujarat Giants looks to continue winning run against dangerous Mumbai Indians

Two wins in as many matches. It has been a perfect start to the Women’s Premier League (WPL) for Gujarat Giants. Having beaten UP Warriorz and Delhi Capitals, Giants would be hoping to keep the momentum going when it takes on Mumbai Indians at the DY Patil Stadium on Tuesday.

Coming on the back of a thrilling contest against Capitals where Sophie Devine defended seven runs in the final over after hammering a 42-ball-95 with the willow, Giants will once again hope for the Kiwi all-rounder to come good.

However, against a formidable Mumbai outfit, it won’t be an easy task. With Nat Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur back among runs, the defending champion has enough firepower in its batting department. After going down to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the tournament opener, Mumbai Indians bounced back strongly, and as the competition gets tougher, the star-studded team needs to make optimum use of the opportunities that come its way.

“We have long batting line-ups, which gives me the freedom to go out and express myself. I’m not worried about batting deep or holding back, and that’s probably why I’m enjoying myself so much,” said captain Harmanpreet, after she left from the front with a 42-ball-74 against Delhi Capitals.

For Giants, the Indian recruits like the experienced Rajeshwari Gayakwad and the youthful Kashvee Gautam need to make every chance count in the long tournament.

However, the team suffered a blow as Yastika Bhatia was officially ruled out of the tournament.

The wicketkeeper-batter underwent an ACL surgery in October last year, and as a result, her availability for the tournament was under question. Even though she linked up with the team, the franchise confirmed on Monday that she has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament.
