Shaad Randhawa has been a lucky charm since his debut film, Woh Lamhe (2006). He was then seen in other memorable films like Awarapan (2007), Aashiqui 2 (2013), Ek Villain (2014), etc. In 2025, he was the only common actor in the sleeper successes, Saiyaara and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat; that’s when he became a sensation on the internet and got his due. 2025 ended on a positive note for him as he bagged Yeh Prem Mol Liya, directed by none other than Sooraj Barjatya. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Shaad opened up about this film and a lot more.

Did Saiyaara and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat help you?
I got a call from Mukesh Chhabra bhai’s office, informing me that Sooraj ji wanted to meet me. At first, I couldn’t believe it. I spoke to Mukesh bhai directly and he confirmed that Sooraj ji had liked me and was considering me for a part in his film. I told him, ‘I don’t want to hear anything else. I am doing the film’ (laughs). After all, just like any other actor, even I had the desire to always work with Sooraj ji.

When I met Sooraj ji, I asked him how he thought of me. He revealed that he had seen Aashiqui 2 and had liked me in that film. Hence, it was neither Saiyaara nor Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat but Aashiqui 2 that helped me. Nevertheless, it’s good that after those two films, I get to work in a film like this, with a star cast like this and above all, with a director like this. I am truly blessed.

You put a lovely picture of touching Sooraj Barjatya’s feet…
The vibe of that person is something else. I guess any actor who has worked with him will vouch for it. First of all, Sooraj ji glows. He has got that halo around him. I had heard very nice things about him. Yet, when I met him, I was like, ‘Oh my God, he’s so, so, so nice’. The way he talks to you and his energy are very comforting. Moreover, I have grown up watching his iconic films like Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994), Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999), etc. Hence, working with him is truly a dream come true.”

What can we expect from Yeh Prem Mol Liya?
It is a film that only Sooraj can make. It’s about family, values and romance. There’s dada ji, dadi ji, nani, bua – it’s that kind of a film (smiles). It touches upon relationships; I don’t think anybody knows relationships better than Sooraj ji. The film also tells a beautiful love story. I am sure everybody would be looking forward to the film because we have been missing that kind of film. We haven’t seen a family entertainer in the longest time.

Also, only he can come up with a title like Yeh Prem Mol Liya…
Absolutely. The film and its title are rooted. They talk about family values and our culture. Kabhi kabhi lagta hai ki hum woh sab bhoolte ja rahe hai. At such times, Sooraj ji comes and reminds us that this is what we are. And as you rightly said, even the title is so desi and Hindustani. That’s Sooraj ji for you.

Many actors have said that on the sets of a Sooraj Barjatya film, no one shouts or raises their voice. Is that true?
Yes, it is and it is amazing. It’s a very spiritual atmosphere. The mood of the set is dependent on how the people at the top behave. That way, his vibe transfers everywhere. Everyone on the set is well-behaved. Pata hi nahin chalta ki shooting chal rahi hai! I was with Shruti Seth the other day; she’s also in the film. She told me that her sister visited the set and she remarked, ‘Oh my God, this man’s vibe is like the Dalai Lama’!

Have you shot with Ayushmann Khurrana and Sharvari?
Yes, of course. It was such a nice experience. They are so sweet and professional. I have shot only for a day or two, and so far, it’s been a good experience.
