Siraj appointed as Hyderabad captain for upcoming Ranji Trophy matches against Mumbai and Chhattisgarh


Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj is set to lead Hyderabad in its upcoming Ranji Trophy home matches against Mumbai and Chhattisgarh.

Rahul Singh has been named as Siraj’s deputy.

The game against Mumbai will be held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium from January 22 to 25 while the fixture against Chhattisgarh will take place at the Gymkhana Ground from January 29 to February 1.

Siraj made his first-class debut for Hyderabad in 2015. In 88 first-class matches, including 45 Tests for India, the 31-year-old speedster has picked 309 wickets. However, he has no prior experience of captaincy at any level.

Hyderabad is placed fifth with 13 points in Group D after five rounds in the Elite Division. It lost to Jammu and Kashmir in its last match. It drew matches against Delhi, Pondicherry and Rajasthan, while its solitary win came against Himachal Pradesh.
