EXCLUSIVE: Bhushan Kumar on Border 2 box office: “Every day has a test run” 2 : Bollywood News

Producer Bhushan Kumar is pleased with the way Border 2 has performed at the box office, but for him, the real sense of satisfaction goes far beyond opening-day figures. Speaking exclusively to Bollywood Hungama, Kumar spoke candidly about how he evaluates a film’s performance and why audience response matters more than headline numbers.

EXCLUSIVE: Bhushan Kumar on Border 2 box office: “Every day has a test run”“The first day happens because of hype and brand,” Kumar said, explaining that opening numbers are often driven by positioning. “The second day is important. If after opening at such big numbers you see improvement on the second day, it means your word of mouth is strong.” Border 2 reflected this trend clearly, registering a notable jump on Saturday despite opening at already high levels. Calling the growth “very meaningful” and “very beneficial,” Kumar added that such movement helps define the film’s trajectory. He stressed that in the film industry, every day is considered a test. “We say the second day is a test, then Monday is a test. This time we have a Monday holiday, but then Tuesday is also a test. Every day has a test run,” he said.

While box-office numbers often dominate trade conversations and social media discourse, Kumar was clear that figures alone do not define success for him. After spending two to three years working on a film, his real sense of validation comes from witnessing audience reactions inside theatres. According to Kumar, seeing viewers laugh, cry, and clap during Border 2 is the strongest indicator that the film has truly connected. He described the audience response as extremely encouraging, adding that such emotional engagement confirms the film’s acceptance not only at the box office, but also at a deeper, more personal level.
