JSW MG Motor’s upcoming Majestor SUV drives to Mount Japfü summit ahead of India debut

JSW MG Motor India, on Friday, said its upcoming SUV, Majestor, has completed a drive to the summit of Mount Japfü, the second-highest peak in Nagaland. The company calls the model India’s first D+ segment SUV and said the climb was part of its testing and validation programme.Mount Japfü, which lies in the Barail Range near the Kohima region, has steep gradients, rocky tracks, forest trails and variable surfaces. It is also known for its biodiversity and for hosting the world’s tallest rhododendron tree.

The company released a teaser video showing the SUV on different off-road surfaces. It said the vehicle is built for use on snow, sand and mud, and is equipped with four-wheel drive and terrain-focused systems designed to manage traction, stability and control.
According to the company, the vehicle was driven over steep inclines, rocks, narrow forest paths and uneven ground. The expedition was supported by the Kohima Adventure Motorsports Club (KAMC).The automaker said the Japfü drive reflects its approach of testing vehicles outside controlled environments. The MG Majestor is scheduled to be unveiled on 12 February 2026. The company positions it as a larger offering than standard D-segment SUVs and says its dimensions place it in a new D+ category.

Industry segment classifications in India typically define A, B, C and D segments by vehicle length, with D-segment models generally above 4.6 metres. JSW MG Motor India says the Majestor exceeds conventional D-segment dimensions and will sit in what it terms the D+ segment.

As per the teaser video, the SUV was driven on a jungle trail with partial camouflage. The grille area was covered, but an octagonal grille shape, slim LED daytime running lights and bumper-mounted headlamps were visible. The vehicle also appeared to have a front skid plate and body cladding.

The company is expected to position the Majestor as a three-row SUV aimed at buyers looking for a vehicle suited to rough terrain. Expected features include a large touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera and Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems.

JSW MG Motor India is expected to offer the Majestor with a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a four-wheel-drive system. The model is expected to compete with established ladder-frame SUVs in the segment.
