Vipul Amrutlal Shah says The Kerala Story 2 is inspired by real court cases; reveals 6–7 months of researchThe recently released teaser of The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond signals a darker and more layered narrative. Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Kamakhya Narayan Singh, the film draws inspiration from real incidents that form part of India’s legal and judicial records. According to Shah, authenticity and factual grounding were central to shaping the sequel’s storyline.
Explaining the shift in focus from the first film, Vipul Amrutlal Shah said that while The Kerala Story dealt with the radicalisation of Indian women into ISIS, the sequel looks inward to explore exploitation within the country itself. He shared, “When we make a film like The Kerala Story: Goes Beyond, we wanted it to become more representative of our all-India situation. And hence, the three stories that we selected, we could not just tell their stories. We have taken many incidents from other girls’ lives and made them part of their stories. As a result, it’s a story of three girls, but it also has a reflection of a lot of other stories in it.”
Shah further revealed that the film’s narrative was shaped by months of detailed research that went far beyond desk work. “We have done our research for almost six to seven months. We have met various victims. We’ve travelled to various parts of the country to meet victims, their parents, and people in and around. We’ve gone through various court orders, police, and FIRs. So a lot of research has been done. A lot of media articles became our source from which we went and chased the victims. So it was extensive research that allowed us to collect the right information. And that is how the film has been made,” shared Vipul Amrutlal Shah.
The sequel weaves together three primary narratives, each inspired by multiple real-life cases, creating a composite story that reflects broader patterns rather than isolated incidents. By grounding the film in documented legal material, the makers aim to present a narrative that remains closely tied to real events.
The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond is produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and co-produced by Aashin A Shah under the banner of Sunshine Pictures. With Kamakhya Narayan Singh at the helm, the film seeks to take the conversation initiated by the first instalment forward, expanding its thematic canvas.
The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on February 27, 2026. As the release date approaches, The Kerala Story 2 is expected to generate further discussion around its subject matter and the real-life cases that inspired it.
