Riyan Parag named Rajasthan Royals captain ahead of IPL 2026

Riyan Parag has been named Rajasthan Royals’ next captain ahead of IPL 2026, stepping into the role after Sanju Samson’s transfer to Chennai Super Kings.

Parag, 24, has had a taste of the job before. He captained RR in eight matches last season when Samson missed time through injury. Royals won only two of those games, but Parag’s personal form stood out. He averaged 38.57 in that stretch and signed off with a career-best 95 against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens.

Parag has been a Royals player since his IPL debut in 2019 and has featured in every season since. He played every match in each of the last two seasons, and 2024 was his breakout year: 573 runs at an average of 52.09 and a strike rate of 149.21.

Overall, Parag has played 84 matches for RR, scoring 1566 runs and picking up seven wickets.
