After working in films like The Archies (2023), Loveyapa (2025) and Nadaaniyan (2025), Khushi Kapoor is now gearing up for Mom 2. Meanwhile, we came across an interesting trivia from 25 years ago, when Khushi was born to Boney Kapoor and Sridevi, on November 5, 2000.

The reason was that Boney and Sridevi couldn’t agree on a name.

The article further said that while Boney liked the name Khushi for her second daughter, Sridevi had reservations as she found it too filmy! Boney Kapoor was quoted joking, “She (Sridevi) takes a little long to appreciate good things.”

In the Film Information magazine dated December 2, 2000, it was revealed that Boney Kapoor finally had his way and their second daughter was named Khushi Kapoor. The naming ceremony was held at Boney’s residence on November 26, 2000 in the morning and it was followed by lunch. The ceremony was attended by Boney Kapoor’s parents (Surinder Kapoor and Nirmal Kapoor), producer Ashok Thakeria, Nizam distributor Ravi Machhar and a few other friends of Boney. Boney’s actor-brother, Anil Kapoor, couldn’t make it as he was out of town.

Janhvi, Khushi named after Urmila, Sonali?
The articles further remark that the name of Boney Kapoor and Sridevi’s elder daughter, Janhvi, was incidentally the name of Urmila Matondkar’s character in Judaai (1997). Meanwhile, Khushi is Sonali Bendre’s name in Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai (2000). Incidentally, both films were produced by Boney Kapoor. In 2003, Boney also made a film named Khushi, starring Fardeen Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan. It was a remake of the Tamil film Kushi (2000).

In 2022, Janhvi Kapoor clarified to Filmfare, “No, I was not named after Urmila’s character in Judaai. I think dad just really liked the name from before the film and mom did too. I think mom was really obsessed with the idea that the meaning of it was purity and she would keep looking at me and keep telling me that I look pure and pure soul and things like that. So, I feel it really resonated with her in that sense.”
