Give us more: Scotland leaves T20 World Cup 2026 wanting bigger stages

A month ago, Scotland was still waiting for formal confirmation of its entry into the Men’s T20 World Cup after Bangladesh opted not to travel to India. On Tuesday night, as Richie Berrington’s men hurried through the mixed zone to rush to the airport to catch an early morning flight back home following a seven-wicket defeat to Nepal at the Wankhede Stadium, there was disappointment — but little regret.

They leave with one win, two more impressive performances and memories that will outlast the results column.

For pacer Bradley Currie, the experience of playing in front of boisterous crowds at iconic venues like the Eden Gardens and the Wankhede Stadium was transformative.

Recalling the clash against England at Eden Gardens, he said: “In the England game, we had 40-odd thousand (fans), maybe even 50. For me, that as a kid growing up, was a dream come true,” Currie said, admitting the noise by the 19,000 Nepali fans overshadowed the Eden frenzy.

“That’s the loudest game I’ve ever played. It was crazy. It was genuinely like playing a cricket game in a nightclub. We grow as players for that experience… what we ask for is more, just give us more,” he said, joking that it would feel like “playing in a library” back home.

Captain Berrington, meanwhile, focused on the cricketing positives. He spoke of pride in Scotland’s preparation and competitiveness, even if key moments slipped away.

A lack of match exposure, he felt, showed at decisive junctures. “Really pleased with the preparation that we have had, how we have competed in all these fixtures. There is some frustration there because we saw this as obviously a great opportunity to show what we can do on the world stage.” Berrington said.

“We have shown in three games there, we got ourselves in a really strong position, and maybe just that lack of match time showed it in key moments. Had we taken the game a little bit deeper, we could have been on the right side of a few more results. It’s definitely a huge positive for me the way the team has come out and the cricket that we have played throughout this tournament.”
