Reports have suggested that teams such as Manchester Super Giants, MI London, Southern Brave and Sunrisers Leeds, all linked to Indian Premier League ownership groups, could refrain from bidding for Pakistan cricketers due to concerns over political backlash in India.
Brook, who is contracted with Sunrisers Leeds, distanced himself from the off-field debate but made his view clear ahead of his side’s Super Eight clash against Sri Lanka.
“Our main focus is the T20 World Cup. It’s not really any of our business,” he said. “But Pakistan have been a great cricket nation for many years. There are 50 or 60 of them in the auction, and it would be a shame not to see some of them involved.”
A total of 67 Pakistan men’s and women’s players, including most of the men’s T20 World Cup squad, have registered for the London auction. In previous editions, players such as Mohammad Amir, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf have featured in the competition.
Pakistan cricketers have not played in the IPL since 2008, and none have appeared in SA20 or the ILT20, tournaments with teams owned by IPL-linked groups.
The Hundred runs from July 21 to August 16, with the player auction scheduled for March 11 and 12.
