Pallekele weather update: Will the Sri Lanka vs England Super 8 match be washed out?

England and Sri Lanka will be keen to get their Super 8 campaigns off to a winning start when they meet at the Pallekele International Stadium on Sunday, February 22.

The match will be the second of the group, after Pakistan and New Zealand’s clash at the R. Premadasa Stadium was washed out on Saturday.

Worryingly for both sides, the forecast for Sunday is not promising either. The weather forecast seems to indicate that there will be rain for most of Sunday, providing little time for a match to take place.

Under the International Cricket Council’s regulations for the 2026 T20 World Cup Super 8 stage, there are no reserve days except for the semifinal and final. A minimum of five overs per side must be completed for a result to be declared. If that threshold is not met by the cut-off time, the match will be abandoned as a No Result, with both teams sharing the points.

If the match is washed out, it will mean that all four sides in the group will be tied on one point after one match.
