Entry of Apple’s most powerful chipset, what is special in M5 Pro and M5 Max? Sale starts from March 11

Apple on Tuesday refreshed its MacBook Pro portfolio and introduced the new generation M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. The company claims that these are the most powerful Apple Silicon desktop-grade chips ever. The new chips use the company’s in-house Fusion architecture, which integrates two 3nm dies for lower latency and higher bandwidth.

The new MacBook Pro (2026) models can be configured with an M5 Pro or M5 Max chip. It has the option of up to 128GB unified memory and up to 8TB SSD storage.

Equipped with high performance
Both chips have an 18-core CPU, which includes 12 performance cores and six new high-performance ‘super cores’. According to Apple, these super cores provide better single-threaded performance, while performance cores provide more efficiency in multi-threaded tasks.

The company claims that the new chips can provide up to 30 percent better CPU performance compared to the previous M4 series. For graphics, the GPU can be configured with up to 40 cores, and each core has a neural accelerator.

Apple says that this GPU can provide ‘up to 4x higher peak compute’ in AI workloads. Additionally, the new shader core supports hardware-accelerated mesh shading and dynamic caching, delivering up to 30-35% better performance in ray-tracing based apps.

These chips also include a 16-core neural engine, which makes on-device AI tasks faster. Also, the new MacBook Pro models support Thunderbolt 5 connectivity.

According to Apple, these models have been designed keeping in mind creators, video editors, STEM students and AI researchers. Sales of the new MacBook Pro will start from March 11.
