Samson scored an unbeaten 97 against West Indies in a must-win Super Eight match. He also made 89 runs each in the semifinal and the final.
India’s batting star Virat Kohli remains the only cricketer to have won the Player of the Tournament award twice, achieving the feat in 2014 and 2016.
The accolade went to Shahid Afridi in the inaugural edition of the tournament, which India won after defeating archrival Pakistan in the final.
In 2024, India’s Jasprit Bumrah claimed the award after taking 15 wickets in eight matches at an exceptional economy rate of 4.17.
