Excited to be a part of CSK, play with Dhoni: Sanju Samson ahead of IPL 2026

Sanju Samson is still basking in the glory of the India’ T20 World Cup triumph and relishing the biggest moments of his cricket career. However, Sanju has now shifted his focus on IPL and hopes to carry on his T20 World Cup form to the premier T20 tournament.

“Winning the T20 World Cup was the biggest moment of my career but now I am focussed on doing well in the IPL. I am turning out for a new team and I would like to give my best for them,’’ said Sanju during an interaction with the media here on Monday.

Sanju said he was excited to be part of Chennai Super Kings and was looking forward to playing alongside M.S. Dhoni. “I am really excited to be part of CSK. I had spoken to Dhoni over phone and had shared the dressing room with him when I was in the Indian team. I always had positive vibes after interaction with Dhoni bhai. This will be different as I will be spending close to two months with Dhoni in CSK and I am eagerly looking forward to it. It will be a great opportunity for me to observe him from close quarters and learn from him,’’ he said.

Sanju said he was overwhelmed by the support the Chennai crowd gave him when he played for India in the World Cup. “I was surprised by the support I got from the Chennai crowd during the World Cup. I think I am lucky. Maybe they see me as one of them. I don’t want to disappoint them in the IPL and will give my best for CSK’’ he said.

Sanju rated his 97 not out against the West Indies as the best knock in the World Cup. “We had to win four matches which were virtually knock outs to win the World Cup and the talk in the dressing room centred around how difficult the task would be. I rate my knock against the West Indies as the best because it came under pressure and I made those runs while we were chasing a big target. I had to temper my aggression as we were losing wickets at the other end. I think I handled the pressure and was able to control the chase well,” he said.
