KKR names Rinku Singh as vice-captain for IPL 2026

Three-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champion Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Tuesday named left-hand middle order batter Rinku Singh as its vice-captain for the 2026 season.

At the Knights Unplugged 3.0 event in Kolkata, KKR CEO Venky Mysore made the announcement while presenting the players and the support staff for the season.

Starting from the team’s newest recruit, left-arm seamer Saurabh Dubey, KKR showcased all its available players, including the towering duo of Cameron Green and Blessing Muzarabani, before inviting captain Ajinkya Rahane and his newly appointed deputy Rinku.

With KKR facing problems due to injuries to some of its key pacers, the franchise is expected to rely on its batting prowess and Rinku, who has been performing the finisher’s job well so far, may perform an even more important role this season.

“We have seen Rinku Singh evolve as a player and a leader. We wanted him to shoulder a little more responsibility, and this is the perfect time,” KKR head coach Abhishek Nayar said during a panel discussion.

Rinku, who was part of India’s T20 World Cup-winning squad, has played for KKR since the 2018 campaign. He has played 59 matches for the side, scoring 1,099 runs at an average of 30.53.

Rinku said, “It feels good to be named KKR’s vice-captain. My dream came true after we became the champion in the T20 World Cup. Now, I will try to fulfil my responsibility.”

After finishing in a disappointing eighth place last year, the three-time champion will begin its season against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
