Renault will soon launch Kiger and Triber in CNG avatar.

Renault India is preparing to give a major upgrade to its entry-level cars. The company is soon going to launch its popular models like Renault Kiger and Tribe in factory-fitted CNG variants with turbo-petrol engine. This update will be based on the new Renault Group Entry Platform (RGEP), which is a re-engineered and rebranded version of the existing CMF-A platform.

One of the biggest advantages of this new platform is the integration of underbody dual-cylinder CNG tanks. Boot space is significantly reduced in conventional CNG kits, but on the RGEP platform the tanks will be fitted in the floor under the chassis. With this, the center of gravity of the car will be better and the boot space will be almost completely safe. This is a huge plus point for a three-row MPV like the Triber, where practicality is of utmost importance.

Renault Triber

The long-awaited 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine (HR10) will now finally be launched in the Triber. This engine is already available in Kiger and gives 100 bhp power along with 160 Nm torque in petrol mode. It will give adequate performance even in CNG mode, which will be much better than the current naturally aspirated engine of Triber. There is a possibility of getting the option of manual and CVT automatic gearbox with the engine.

Renault Kiger

Kiger compact SUV will also get the update on the same turbo-CNG powertrain and RGEP platform. This will make Kiger the second turbo-petrol CNG compact SUV after Tata Nexon. These updates on both models are part of Renault’s strategy to build a stronger presence in the entry-level segment in India. The company is planning to launch 7 new products in India by 2030, in which the RGEP platform will play an important role.

Currently, dealer-level CNG kit is available on Renault Kiger and Triber, but the factory-fitted kit will be more safe, reliable and will come with warranty. The underbody placement will result in better weight distribution, improving handling and the suspension mounting points have also been redesigned. The electronic architecture in the platform will also be updated, which will be ready for hybrid or other powertrain options in the future.

When will the launch happen?

Talking about the launch timeline, according to reports, these updated models can be launched around the festive season of 2026 (September-October). Some reports mention late 2026, while Triber Turbo CNG may arrive earlier. There may be a slight increase in price, but the CNG option will reduce the running costs to a great extent. Overall, Renault India is refreshing its portfolio through this update and is preparing to compete directly with competitors like Maruti, Tata and Hyundai.
