Alert comes on mobile with loud beeping sound, government is doing big testing

If suddenly an alert message has come on your mobile with a loud beep, then there is no need to panic. This is not a sign of any danger, but is part of a new emergency alert system being implemented by the government. The purpose of this system is to provide immediate information to the people at the time of disaster.

This initiative is being taken by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

For this, a special platform ‘SACHET’ is being used, which has been prepared by the Center for Development of Telematics.

It is written in the alert message-

Cell broadcast service has been started using indigenous technology so that citizens can get immediate information about disaster. Vigilant citizens, safe nation. The public is not required to take any action upon receiving this message. This is a test message – Government of India

This new system works on Cell Broadcast technology. Like normal SMS, it is not sent to any one number, but reaches all the mobile phones present in a particular area simultaneously. Its advantage is that in a disaster-like situation, even when the network becomes busy, this alert can reach everyone quickly.

This technology will be used to warn people in time in case of earthquake, tsunami, lightning, gas leak or other dangerous situations. The special thing is that this is a system completely developed in India, which also promotes technological self-reliance of the country.

Alert message may come again and again
Currently, testing of this system is going on across the country. Therefore, sometimes you may get a test message in English, Hindi or some regional language. Sometimes the same alert may appear again and again, which is absolutely normal.

If you want to control these alerts, you can go to your mobile’s settings and make changes in ‘Wireless Emergency Alerts’. But keep in mind, this is just part of testing and you do not need to take any action.

In the future, when this system is fully implemented, it will help in providing necessary information to the people in seconds during any disaster, due to which many lives can be saved.

DoT has appealed to the people to cooperate in this important test and keep in mind that all these messages are only for testing the system, there is no need to respond to them.
