Electric Scooter vs Bike: Which is better? Read full comparison

Electric Scooter vs Bike: Which is better between electric scooter and electric bike? This question remains among many youth, office goers and middle class families. Both are electric two-wheelers, but their method of use, design, performance and cost are completely different.

Electric scooters (like Ola S1, Ather 450X, TVS iQube) are mostly made for easy commuting in cities, while electric bikes (like Ultraviolette F77, Revolt RV400) are more powerful, faster and suitable for long distance or sporty riding. Let us know who is better among the two?

Difference in design and use

The electric scooter has a step-through design, which makes it easy to get on and off. Women, elderly and office going people like them. They are light in weight, easy to handle and easy to maneuver in and out of city traffic. The top speed of most scooters is around 80-100 km/h and the real-world range is 80-150 km.

On the other hand, electric bikes have sporty looks, better suspension, more power (many models have 10-20 kW motor) and higher speed (100-150+ km/h). These are better for highways or long rides, but they weigh more. It takes up a lot of parking space and can be a bit difficult for new riders. If your daily commute is 30-50 km in the city, then the scooter is more practical. If you like to travel on weekends or use the highway a lot, then a bike can be a better option.

Performance and Comfort

The biggest advantage of electric vehicles is instant torque. Scooters look a lot of fun in the stop-go traffic of the city. Due to more power in the bike, overtaking and speed becomes easier. Both have features like regenerative braking, app connectivity, digital dashboard and fast charging. Scooters offer more storage space (boot), while bikes have better ground clearance and stability.

who’s better?

Electric scooter will be good in these cases-

  • Most of your riding is in the city.
  • Other family members will also use it.
  • The budget is limited.
  • Ease and convenience are priority.

Electric bike is better if-

  • You like speed, power and long rides.
  • Have to go on the highway.
  • The budget is high and a sporty feel is required.

Our advice: Both have benefits for the environment. They are known for zero tailpipe emissions and low noise. If we talk about challenges, then charging time (2-6 hours), less range in cold weather and resale value is still slightly lower than petrol. Ultimately the decision depends on your need. Before buying, definitely take a test ride and check the charging arrangements at home.
