New Delhi. WhatsApp is quietly removing the ‘Avatar’ feature which was launched with great fanfare. Meta has decided to discontinue this feature on both Android and iOS platforms. This process is being implemented gradually i.e. in phases, due to which many users are not yet aware that this popular feature has disappeared from their WhatsApp.

WhatsApp has not yet officially shared any concrete reason for removing this feature. However, technical experts believe that the biggest reason behind this is low user engagement. When Meta introduced it, it was expected that people would like it a lot like Bitmoji. But most of the users are still using normal photos, traditional emojis and regular stickers.

Started receiving notifications

According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp users have now started receiving notifications within the app stating that avatar editing is no longer available. In the phones of many users, the entire avatar section has disappeared from the settings menu. Earlier, users could customize their facial features, hairstyle and clothes by going to Settings, but now this option is being removed.

Neither new will be created, nor old will be edited

This change is not limited to settings only. Now you will lose the ability to create new avatars or edit old avatars through the chat info screen or keyboard. Meta had tried to make this feature quite personalized, which also included advanced features like dual-profile view with flip effect, but now the company has decided to wrap it up.

Will your old stickers also be deleted?

There is a small relief news for those users who often use avatar stickers in chats. If you’ve ever used your avatar stickers before, they won’t disappear completely. These stickers will remain in the ‘Recent’ or ‘Favorite’ section of your keyboard.

You will be able to send old stickers, but you will no longer be able to make any changes to them or create a new avatar set. Since WhatsApp is implementing this change in a phased manner, it is possible that this feature is still visible on your phone. But this situation is not going to last long.
