PBKS still striving to find its best performance, says assistant coach Brad Haddin

After a cherished stint as the runaway leader, Punjab Kings has seen its surge grind to a halt in recent outings. Despite signs of vulnerability creeping in, assistant coach Brad Haddin struck an upbeat tone ahead of the clash with Sunrisers Hyderabad.

“Tournament cricket is all about playing your best right at the end and that’s what we’re striving for all the time. We’re striving for that perfect result and that perfect game. When we do find that, we’ll be a hard team to beat.”

While results haven’t gone PBKS’ way recently, Haddin insisted there are positives within the group. 

“Against Gujarat Titans, we didn’t get the result but we got ourselves right back into the game and fought right to the end. There are some good signs out there with the ball in the field that we’re all happy about. The partnership of Marcus Stoinis and Suryansh Shedge was really good in the circumstances of the game.”

Haddin dismissed concerns over over-reliance on the top order and backed the team’s aggressive approach. 

“You need to find ways to limit (them in the) the PowerPlay. A lot comes back to how effective you are with the new ball – that’s both with ball and bat. At this stage of the tournament, you want to start stringing good games together and off the back of those good games, you want to start getting results.”

On the gameplan against SRH, he quipped: “Get early wickets. Don’t let Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma bat too long.”
