Mobile numbers linked to Aadhaar are changing after taking fake interviews, fraud through face scan.Zoom

Thugs are now even breaking biometric security with AI.

A new and dangerous cyber fraud has emerged in Rajasthan. Fraudsters are now using AI (Artificial Intelligence) to change the mobile numbers linked to people’s Aadhar cards. For this, they pretend to have a fake job interview and get their face and eyes scanned.

How is the scam working?

  1. Fake Job Interview: Fraudsters send people links for online interviews using the name of a fake company. During the interview, they ask the candidate to turn the face to different angles, blink frequently and look at the screen.
  2. Biometric data theft: In this process, the photo, video and details of the eyes (Iris) of the person are recorded. Fraudsters use this data to create deepfake videos with AI tools.
  3. Change in basis: Using realistic videos created by AI, they pass fake biometric verification at the CSC Center (Common Service Centre) and change the mobile number linked to Aadhaar.
  4. Loss: After changing the mobile number, fraudsters easily gain access to OTP, bank account, UPI, DigiLocker and other services.

How to avoid this?

  • Do not give interview on unknown link: Do not do a video interview on the link of a stranger company. Always contact the company through its official website or email only.
  • Avoid face scanning: Never get your face or eyes scanned on an unknown platform.
  • Security of Aadhaar: Check Aadhaar authentication history regularly. (myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in).
  • Keep checking the mobile number linked to Aadhaar often.
  • Do not share OTP or any details on unknown calls.
  • How to complain: Call 1930 (cyber helpline) immediately.
  • File complaint online at cybercrime.gov.in.

This scam shows that fraudsters are now using AI tools to bypass biometric security as well. Therefore it is very important to be cautious. Stay away from unknown interview links, video KYC or face scanning. If you have any doubt, immediately contact Cyber Police or 1930.
