Every year in summer, a common habit is seen – as soon as the temperature crosses 40 degrees, people reach home and pick up the AC remote and set it to 18°C or 16°C. Most people think that low temperature means fast cooling. But the truth is a little different. According to Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), running the AC at 24°C is the best and wisest option.
Why is 24°C the right temperature? BEE, which works under the Ministry of Power of the Government of India, states that running the AC at very low temperatures makes its compressor work harder. Due to this, electricity consumption increases rapidly and your electricity bill also increases.
According to reports, if you increase the temperature of AC by 1°C, electricity can be saved by about 6%. That means, if you run AC at 24°C instead of 20°C, there will be a clear difference in the electricity bill at the end of the month. This is the reason why nowadays the setting of 24°C is being used more in offices, hotels and new homes.
