After four years, Mitsubishi is going to reintroduce its most iconic SUV Pajero to the world. This legendary SUV, which has won the Dakar Rally 12 times, will now return with a new boxy design, powerful 4×4 system and possible hybrid technology. According to reports, the new Pajero can directly challenge SUVs like Toyota Land Cruiser and Fortuner. Know the launch timeline, features and complete details of entry in India.
Mitsubishi Pajero will make a comeback soon.
This news is quite interesting for SUV lovers, because Pajero’s name has always been associated with Dakar Rally victories (12 times winner) and sales of more than 32 lakh units. The new generation will be built on a ladder-frame chassis, which will make it a direct competitor to giants like Toyota Land Cruiser and Nissan Patrol. This strategy of Mitsubishi is going to give the brand a strong comeback in the global SUV segment.
Debut and launch timeline
The global debut of the new Mitsubishi Pajero is going to happen in the third quarter (Q3) of 2026, i.e. it can be introduced around August-September. According to Australian dealer sources, pre-orders can start from September and deliveries will start from December 2026. In some markets, delivery may be pushed to early 2027. The model is expected to be available in Japan by December 2026.
Design and Platform
The new Pajero is being developed on body-on-frame (ladder-frame) architecture, which will be inspired by the Mitsubishi Triton (L200) pickup. It will have a live rear axle and a strong 4×4 system, which will make it extremely capable for bad roads and off-roading. The design is expected to have a boxy, upright silhouette and high ground clearance, reminiscent of the classic Pajero.
Powertrain Options
The company can offer hybrid variants along with diesel engines. There is a possibility of production in Thailand, from where global export will take place. Powertrain details have not been officially released yet, but the focus will be on balancing both off-road performance and on-road comfort.
Will it come in Indian market also?
Mitsubishi has already offered models like Outlander and Pajero Sport in the Indian market. Speculations about the India entry of the new Pajero are rife, especially when the company is preparing to make a comeback with new models like the Destinator. If launched, it will compete with models like Toyota Fortuner, Isuzu MU-X and MG Hector Plus.
