The meeting comes amid growing concerns within the ICC over the appointment of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) interim committee, a move the world governing body is understood to view as inconsistent with its regulations governing the independence and administration of national cricket boards.
Sri Lanka’s Sports Minister Sunil Kumar Gamage installed the interim committee in late April to oversee the affairs of SLC.
According to sources, the ICC last week wrote to SLC CEO Ashley de Silva. While the contents of the letter have not been disclosed, it is understood that the ICC stressed the need for democratic elections to be conducted without further delay.
The interim committee had hoped to receive an open-ended mandate from the ICC to carry out structural reforms, including drafting a new constitution for the governing body.
The committee took charge after replacing the executive committee elected in 2025 and headed by Shammi Silva, whose term was due to run until May next year.
Silva and his office-bearers subsequently stepped down, reportedly after being asked to do so by President Dissanayake, who had expressed dissatisfaction with the administration’s functioning.
