The company says that Lockdown Mode will help prevent sensitive information from falling into the wrong hands. This will be especially useful in situations where AI tries to steal data through malicious instructions hidden in the content being processed.
What is Prompt Injection Attack?
Prompt injection is a cyber attack in which instructions hidden inside a website, document or file try to mislead an AI chatbot. Due to this, AI can expose sensitive information or perform unwanted actions.
According to OpenAI, lockdown mode does not completely prevent these attacks, but increases security by blocking attempts to send data out.
What will change when Lockdown Mode is turned on?
After activating this feature, some internet based features of ChatGPT will be limited.
- Live Web Browsing will be limited to cached content only.
- Deep Research feature will be closed.
- Agent Mode cannot be used.
- ChatGPT will not be able to download the file and analyze the data.
- Facilities like Shopping Agent and financial integration will also be closed.
- Some search results may appear incomplete or out of date.
However, it will not have any impact on settings related to memory, chat sharing, image generation and AI model training.
How to turn on Lockdown Mode?
If you have an eligible ChatGPT account, you can activate it with these simple steps:
- Open ChatGPT.
- Go to Settings.
- Tap Security > Advanced Security.
- Turn on Lockdown Mode.
The thing to note is that lockdown mode and developer mode cannot be used together. When one feature is turned on, the other will automatically turn off.
Amid growing concerns about AI security, this new feature of OpenAI can help users keep their sensitive information safe.
