A Japanese startup company has made a big entry in the world of AI. Sakana AI based in Tokyo has launched its new AI system Fugu. The company claims that it works differently from other common AI models and can complete difficult tasks by using several large AI models together.

• Fugu Ultra scored 93.2 in LiveCodeBench, while Anthropic’s Fable 5 scored 89.8.
• In the GPQA-D (Diamond) test, the Fugu Ultra scored 95.5, which is higher than the 94.6 score of the Claude Mythos Preview.
• However, all these figures are based on the benchmark shared by the company and have not been confirmed.

Even better than GPT-5.5 and Gemini 3.1 Pro?

Sakana claims that in its testing, Fugu models performed better than Google Gemini 3.1 Pro, OpenAI GPT-5.5, Anthropic Opus 4.8 in many specific tasks. These tasks include tasks like automated research, mechanical design, Japanese handwriting analysis, one-shot chess, Rubik’s Cube solving and financial time-series prediction.

Why was Claude Fable 5 in discussion?
Recently Anthropic launched its most advanced AI model Fable 5, but after a few days its availability for foreign users was withdrawn.

According to reports, the US government had asked to do this citing reasons related to national security. Fable 5 is based on Anthropic’s Mythos model, which the company previously made available to limited organizations. It was claimed that it could identify vulnerabilities in many operating systems and web browsers that had not been revealed for years.
