Vikram Gulati, Country Head and Executive Vice President of Toyota Kirloskar Motor, has said that vehicle owners do not need to worry at all about their old or new vehicles. E20 will now be available as standard fuel in the country and it is completely suitable for both old and new vehicles.
There is also a myth that the mileage of vehicles drops drastically by using E20 fuel.
New Delhi. There are many misconceptions spread regarding Ethanol-Blended Fuel. Many people think that ethanol will cause the engine to seize and the vehicle will give less mileage. Vikram Gulati, Country Head and Executive Vice President (Corporate Affairs and Governance) of the country’s leading automobile manufacturer Toyota Kirloskar Motor, has completely rejected these misconceptions. He said that excessive fear has been spread on social media and in the automobile sector regarding E20 fuel, whereas the reality is exactly the opposite.
Vikram Gulati said, “I believe that many misconceptions have spread among the people regarding ethanol blended fuel. For example, there is a big myth going on in the automobile sector that if E20 blended fuel is used, the engine of the vehicle will get damaged. Let me make it clear that this is a complete misconception. This does not happen at all.”
Will the mileage of the vehicle decrease with E20 fuel?
Vikram Gulati said that there is also a myth that the mileage of vehicles falls drastically by using E20 fuel. Technically there is a slight decrease in mileage, but it never decreases as much as is being exaggerated in the market. In the tests conducted by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) before the implementation of E20 across the country in the year 2021, it was found that ethanol blended petrol causes only a slight reduction of 2% to 4% in the mileage of vehicles.
Safe for old vehicles also
Vikram Gulati said that vehicle owners do not need to worry at all about their old or new vehicles. E20 will now be available as standard fuel in the country and it is completely suitable for both old and new vehicles. After April 1, 2023, all vehicles sold in India have been made completely E20 compatible. It has also been proved in the study of Government scientific organization Automotive Research Association of India that the potential harm caused by E20 fuel to old two-wheeler and four-wheeler vehicles is absolutely minor.
E85 and E100 fuel not for common cars
Gulati said people should not get confused between E20 and high-blend fuel. E85 (85% ethanol) and E100 (100% ethanol) fuels are not for common cars or bikes. These ethanol blends are made only for vehicles with special flex-fuel technology, which can digest ethanol in any ratio.
Country left with ₹1.9 lakh crore
Referring to the economic benefits of the ethanol blending program, Vikram Gulati said that according to government data, this initiative has so far saved the country about Rs 1.9 lakh crore of foreign exchange, which was earlier used to import crude oil. Out of this savings, Rs 1.60 lakh crore has directly reached the pockets of the farmers of India. Ethanol has become a strong means of increasing the rural economy and income of farmers, which many other developed countries of the world are also adopting today.
