India captain Shubman Gill retired hurt during the first ODI against England against at Edgbaston on Tuesday.
Gill looked to be in discomfort with pain in his right calf as he walked off. He was 80 off 75 balls.
On the fourth ball of the 26th over, the opener pulled up holding his right calf after attempting a cover drive. Play stopped briefly during which physios attended to him.
However, he wasn’t fit enough to continue but he can return to the crease if needed.
Washington Sundar replaced him in the middle with India vice-captain Shreyas Iyer at the other end.
The Men in Blue are chasing 259 after Joe Root’s unbeaten 76 and Liam Dawson’s half-century took the host to a competitive total. England was 107/6 by the 22nd over in the first innings.
