If you often forget the password of your Google account, it may soon become easier for you to login. Google is introducing a new selfie video verification feature, with the help of which even if you forget the password, your account can be reopened by proving your identity. Currently this feature is available for limited users and its eligibility can be checked online.
If you are unable to login to your account in future, Google will give you the option of selfie verification.
To turn on the feature you have to look directly at the camera. After this, the head will have to be rotated in different directions as per the instructions given on the screen, so that the camera can record multiple angles of the face. This video will be saved securely in your Google account.
How will it work if you forget the password?
If you are unable to login to your account in future, Google will give you the option of selfie verification. During this time you will have to record a new selfie video again. The live video will be matched with the previously saved video. Once the identity is correct, you will get access to the account.
What did Google say about privacy?
The company says that the selfie video will be saved only with the permission of the user and it will remain encrypted. It will be used only for account login and recovery. If the user wants, he can delete it anytime by going to the settings of the Google account.
How will you protect yourself from fake videos?
Google says that the system will not take decisions just by looking at the photo. The user will also have to make live movements, so that it can be proved that the real person is present in front. Apart from this, the system will also check deepfakes, fake photos and suspicious logins.
Will it also be used in age verification?
No. Google has clarified that this feature is designed only for account login and recovery. It will not be used for age verification. Also, users who are suspected to be minor will not be included in this feature.
