V2V Technology: The Government of India wants to reduce deaths in road accidents by 50%. Many steps are being taken for this. ‘Vehicle-to-vehicle’ communication (V2V) is being promoted under the Intelligent Transportation System. This feature will be made mandatory in new cars in the coming time.
From October 1, 2028, V2V system will be made mandatory for all new vehicles sold in the country.
New Delhi. Imagine, you are going by car and suddenly there is a turn in front due to which you cannot see the car coming from the front. But, how would you feel if suddenly your car alerts you about the vehicle coming from the front or applies brakes on its own? Don’t be surprised, this is soon going to become a reality on Indian roads. The government has made preparations to connect vehicles with each other in a smart way to prevent accidents on the roads. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is now going to make V2V i.e. ‘Vehicle-to-Vehicle’ communication technology mandatory in vehicles.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has decided to add a new sub-rule in the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. This rule will be applicable to all vehicles, two-wheeler, three-wheeler, car, bus and truck. From October 1, 2027, if a vehicle has a V2V system, it will have to compulsorily follow AIS-230 standards. From October 1, 2028, V2V system of AIS-230 standard will be made mandatory in all new vehicles sold in the country.
What is V2V technology?
V2V i.e. ‘Vehicle-to-Vehicle’ communication is a wireless technology. Through this, vehicles send information like their location, speed and braking status to each other in real-time. Special sensors and dedicated short-range communication (DSRC) devices installed in vehicles send signals to other vehicles nearby. That means we can say that they can talk to each other. This technology has many benefits and it can play an important role in preventing road accidents. India wants to reduce road accidents by 50 percent. That is why V2V technology is being adopted.
What will be the benefit of V2V?
- 360 Degree Security: This system will detect hidden dangers in heavy fog or blind spots in advance.
- Automatic Brake and Alert: As soon as the vehicle in front applies brakes suddenly, your car will get the signal, which will eliminate the possibility of collision from behind.
- Freedom from jam: Vehicles will share traffic data among themselves, so that you will be able to change your route before getting stuck in the jam.
