22 Needed Off 6 Balls, Vijay Shankar Was on Strike. What Dilshan Madushanka Did Next Was Extraordinary

Sri Lankan pacer Dilshan Madushanka delivered a wicket maiden against former India cricketer Vijay Shankar in the last over of a Lanka Premier League 2026 match on Thursday.

With Vijay’s Kandy Royals needing 22 runs off the last six balls against Jaffna Kings, Madushanka bowled five straight dot balls before claiming the all-rounder’s wicket with the final delivery.

Heading into the final over, Royals were nine-down in their 222-run chase. This meant Vijay was forced to farm the strike, with last-man Nuwan Thushara at the other end.

Left-arm pacer Madushanka varied his length and pace to tie down Vijay, who was beaten thrice in the over and chose not to run a single twice.

Madushanka claimed his opponent’s wicket with a bouncer, which was pulled to deep backward square leg.

The win lifted Kings to the top of LPL 2026 standings, while Royals are fourth in the five-team tournament.

This is Vijay’s first season in LPL, following his retirement from all formats of Indian cricket. The 35-year-old played 12 ODIs and nine T20Is for India and last featured in national colours at the 2019 ODI World Cup.
