When Mohammed Shami takes the field at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in the Duleep Trophy final, he will bring up a significant milestone — his 100th first-class appearance.
To mark the occasion, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) will felicitate the fast bowler in Chennai. CAB treasurer Sanjay Das will present Shami with a special ball signed by former India captain and CAB president Sourav Ganguly, along with other mementos.
“On this special occasion, we want to felicitate him and acknowledge his contribution to Bengal cricket,” Das told Sportstar.
In 99 first-class matches, Shami has taken 382 wickets, including 15 five-wicket hauls. He claimed five wickets for East Zone against Central Zone in the Duleep Trophy semifinal.

The 36-year-old has 900 wickets across domestic cricket, including 283 in 149 List A matches and 238 in 196 T20 games. He will become only the sixth Indian fast bowler to reach 100 first-class appearances.
The milestone comes at a time when Shami’s place in India’s plans remains uncertain. He continues to be a prolific wicket-taker in domestic cricket and the IPL, but a return to the national side, particularly for the 2027 ODI World Cup, appears increasingly difficult.
For now, Bengal is choosing to celebrate what he has already given to the game.
