Monty Desai is set for a return to the Indian domestic cricket, with the experienced coach in line to be the Gujarat head coach for the next two seasons.
When contacted by Sportstar, Gujarat Cricket Association secretary Anil Patel said the body is yet to formally make an appointment, and indicated that things would be finalised soon.
The move comes soon after Desai stepped down as head coach of Canada.
Desai has extensive experience across domestic, international and franchise cricket. He has previously coached Nepal, Canada and the UAE, besides working with IPL teams Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Lions. He was also the head coach of Andhra in the Ranji Trophy.
His stint with Nepal was particularly successful, with Desai guiding the side to the 2023 Asia Cup and the 2024 T20 World Cup. He has also been involved in player development and talent identification across his various assignments.
Desai was not available for comment at the time of publication.
