Sport has a way of spilling beyond the boundary rope. Sometimes it is the score, sometimes the rivalry, and, in this case, apparently, even three letters on a lodge signboard.

The Karnataka High Court has granted regular bail to two men accused of allegedly assaulting the proprietor of CSK Comforts lodge in Tumakuru and damaging property after an IPL match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans. The curious part of the case was the name of the lodge. The accused allegedly questioned proprietor Ameen Ahamad C.S. about why the property was called “CSK Comforts”. Ahamad told them that the name had no connection with Chennai Super Kings. The accused allegedly then abused and assaulted him and damaged property at the lodge.

Justice S Vishwajith Shetty passed the bail order on August 3, 2026, allowing the petition filed by Swamy, 38, and Suprith, 23. Both had been arrested on June 1 and remained in judicial custody after their earlier bail plea was rejected by the Tumakuru Sessions Court on June 12.

The case was registered at Thilak Park Police Station under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, as well as Section 27 of the Indian Arms Act. The court noted that the complainant had suffered only simple injuries, that the two petitioners had no criminal antecedents and that a major part of the investigation had been completed.

The court granted bail subject to conditions, including a Rs. 1 lakh personal bond and one surety each, regular appearance before the trial court, no contact with or intimidation of prosecution witnesses, and no similar offences. They also cannot leave the trial court’s jurisdiction without permission until the case is disposed of.
