He was dismissed by right-arm seamer V. Koushik, who had sent Gill’s opening partner, Prabhsimran Singh, back to the hut in the third over of Punjab’s 212-run chase.
Though Gill was slated to play against Sikkim on Saturday, the India Test and ODI skipper’s return to domestic cricket was delayed as he was ruled out of the match due to illness.
Gill, who will lead India in a three-match ODI series against New Zealand starting later this week, is coming off two back-to-back injuries. He suffered a neck injury during the first Test against South Africa in November and was ruled out of the subsequent ODIs against the Proteas.
Though he made a return for the T20I series against the same opponent, he could only score 32 runs in the first three matches before being ruled out of the series finale.
Though he was the T20I vice-captain in that series, he was left out of India’s T20I squad for the upcoming series against the Kiwis and the World Cup, which begins next month.
