232-year-old First-Class record broken in Pakistan, team defends lowest-ever target

A 232-year-old record was broken in a President’s Trophy match where Pakistan TV (PTV) defended 40 runs against Shan Masood’s Sui Northern Gas, the lowest successful target defended in the history of First-Class cricket.

PTV won the match by just two runs, breaking the record of Oldfield team that had successfully defended a total of 41 runs against MCC at Lord’s back in 1794, winning the game by six runs.

On Saturday, PTV’s left-arm spinner, Ali Usman finished with figures of six for 9 to bundle out Sui Northern for 37 runs.

In the four-day game, PTV was skittled out for just 166 runs in first innings and Sui took a 72-run lead by totalling 238 runs.

PTV could manage just 111 runs in its second innings. It appeared as if the match was over before the unexpected turn of events.
