Shahid Kapoor, Triptii Dimri, Avinash Tiwary, Farida Jalal, producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Vishal Bhardwaj attended the trailer of their film O’Romeo at a multiplex in Mumbai. Vishal stole the show with his quotes. It’s common for filmmakers to criticize the system of corporates, which once thrived in Bollywood. However, Vishal Bhardwaj chose to be an exception. He talked highly of them.

Mujhe nahin lagta ki aaj ke time mein Haider ka ‘H’ bhi banaya ja sakta hai”Vishal Bhardwaj said, “Jab corporate tha, toh bahut hi zyada accha tha. But since the advent of OTT, the balance has gone for a toss. So, it’s not like I have had problems with corporates. In fact, I made Haider way back in 2014. Mujhe nahin lagta ki aaj ke time mein Haider ka ‘H’ bhi banaya ja sakta hai. Toh mujhe corporate se kabhi problem nahin thi.”

Haider was produced by UTV Motion Pictures. The premiere production house also produced Vishal’s earlier works like The Blue Umbrella (2007), Kaminey (2009) and 7 Khoon Maaf (2011). Incidentally, Haider, like O’Romeo, also starred Shahid Kapoor.

At another point, Vishal Bhardwaj noted, “When you work with corporates, you get a lot of money and also freedom. But there used to be ownership by the producers. That is non-existent now. However, Sajid Nadiadwala owns the film with passion. That was missing from my life and I got a chance to experience it with this film.”

He also said, “Humne ek rupaye mein 5 rupaye ki film banani ki koshish ki hai. Our vision kept increasing, not because of me but Sajid Bhai. I suggested shooting in Georgia as it would be cheaper. He said, ‘Phir toh mazaa hi nahin aayega. Why don’t we shoot in Portugal or Spain?’. When I remarked that ‘Paise zyada lagenge’, he replied, ‘Aap ke paise lagenge kya?’! Yeh film jitni budget pe bani hai, utni haisiyat nahin hai meri as a director. But Sajid Bhai had conviction in me and the project.”

O’Romeo releases in cinemas on February 13.
