Nana Patekar arrives at O’Romeo trailer launch; exits before event begins; Vishal Bhardwaj reveals, “In his signature style, he got up and said, ‘Ek ghanta mujhe wait karaya. Main jaa raha hoon’” : Bollywood News

Film events are always high on glamour and buzz, but they can also test everyone’s patience because they begin far too late. Earlier, a one-hour delay was almost “built into” the invite time. In the post-pandemic era, that casual lag has ballooned to 90 minutes, sometimes even two hours. It doesn’t just throw journalists off schedule; it also tires out the very artists who turn up to support the event. The attendees at the O’Romeo trailer launch witnessed this first hand when veteran actor Nana Patekar, unhappy with the delay, chose to exit the venue.

Nana Patekar arrives at O’Romeo trailer launch; exits before event begins; Vishal Bhardwaj reveals, “In his signature style, he got up and said, ‘Ek ghanta mujhe wait karaya. Main jaa raha hoon’”Director Vishal Bhardwaj said, “Nana has left. He’s like that badmaash kid in the class who bullies everyone. Teacher bhi unse ghabrata hai! But he was also the one who entertained us. We all wanted to hang out with him. We have been friends for 27 years. But this is the first time we worked together.”

Explaining why he left, Vishal revealed, “In his signature style, he got up and said, ‘Ek ghanta mujhe wait karaya. Main jaa raha hoon’. This is what makes him Nana Patekar! He can look strict but is soft inside. Woh aise hai ki aap unko chhoo lo toh woh ro padenge. That kind of person he is.”

A journalist asked Vishal Bhardwaj why it took so much time to work with him and recognizing his talent. The filmmaker laughed and replied, “Who am I to recognize his talent? I was in class 11 or 12 when his film Ankush (1986) was released. I was stunned by his performance. Since then, he has only given fine performances. There was no conscious decision not to work with him. But this happens sometimes. Like Manoj Bajpayee is my college friend. We shared a room. While he was in Ramjas College, I was a student of Hindu College. Yet we have never worked together and I feel sad about it. Manoj iss baat ki wajah se bahut gussa rehta hai mujhse.”

Nana Patekar’s no-nonsense exit should ideally act as a timely wake-up call for event organisers. Glitz can’t come at the cost of basic professionalism. If invite times are respected, it saves everyone’s time, keeps artists in a better space, and ensures the buzz stays on the film, not the delay.

Also present at the event were Shahid Kapoor, Triptii Dimri, Avinash Tiwary, Farida Jalal and producer Sajid Nadiadwala.

O’Romeo releases in cinemas on February 13.
