Maruti Suzuki January production at 2.26 lakh units; exports hit record high


Maruti Suzuki India Limited, on Monday, reported its production and sales numbers for January 2026, showing higher overall output and record monthly sales, supported by growth in utility vehicles and exports, even as small car volumes remained under pressure.

Total production in January 2026 stood at 226,146 units, compared with 206,851 units in January 2025.

January 2026 production details

Passenger vehicle production was 221,977 units versus 201,984 units a year ago. Within this, the mini segment (Alto, S-Presso) accounted for 19,976 units in January 2026, up from 16,375 units last year. The compact segment (Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, WagonR, OEM model) recorded 88,968 units, down from 100,222 units. Combined mini and compact production stood at 108,944 units against 116,597 units a year earlier.

No units of the Ciaz mid-size sedan were produced in January 2026, compared with 2,803 units in January 2025. As a result, total passenger car production came in at 108,944 units versus 119,400 units last year.

Production of utility vehicles (Brezza, Ertiga, e Vitara, Fronx, Jimny, Victoris, XL6, OEM models) rose to 99,856 units from 70,305 units. Vans (Eeco) saw production of 13,177 units, up from 12,279 units.

Light commercial vehicle production, comprising the Super Carry, was 4,169 units in January 2026 compared with 4,867 units a year earlier.

Sales performance during the month

The company posted total sales of 236,963 units in January 2026, its highest-ever monthly figure. This included 178,300 units in domestic sales, 7,643 units supplied to other OEMs and 51,020 units in exports, its highest monthly export total.

Domestic passenger vehicle sales were 174,529 units in January 2026 versus 173,599 units a year earlier. Sales of mini cars (Alto, S-Presso) were 14,268 units compared with 14,247 units. The compact segment (Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, WagonR) recorded 72,738 units versus 82,241 units. Combined mini and compact sales stood at 87,006 units against 96,488 units.

The Ciaz recorded no sales in January 2026, compared with 768 units in January 2025. Total passenger car (A segment) sales were 87,006 units versus 97,256 units last year.

Sales of utility vehicles (Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny, Victoris, XL6) rose to 75,609 units from 65,093 units. Vans (Eeco) recorded 11,914 units, up from 11,250 units.

LCVs, OEM dispatches and exports

Domestic sales of the Super Carry light commercial vehicle were 3,771 units in January 2026 versus 4,089 units a year earlier. Total domestic sales, including passenger vehicles and LCVs, stood at 178,300 units compared with 177,688 units last year.

Sales to other OEMs were 7,643 units in January 2026 versus 7,463 units in January 2025, taking total domestic sales (PV + LCV + OEM) to 185,943 units, compared with 185,151 units a year earlier.

Exports rose to 51,020 units from 27,100 units. Total sales, including domestic and exports, were 236,963 units in January 2026 compared with 212,251 units in January 2025.

Year-to-date performance (April–January)

For the April–January period of FY26, mini car sales stood at 90,312 units versus 103,889 units in the same period of FY25. Compact car sales were 669,927 units compared with 630,889 units, taking mini + compact sales to 760,239 units versus 734,778 units.

Mid-size Ciaz sales in the period were 1,980 units versus 6,629 units. Total passenger car sales reached 762,219 units compared with 741,407 units.

Utility vehicle sales during April–January FY26 were 616,875 units versus 594,056 units, while van sales were 116,816 units compared with 113,770 units. Total domestic passenger vehicle sales stood at 1,495,910 units versus 1,449,233 units.

LCV sales (Super Carry) were 32,236 units versus 29,391 units. Total domestic PV + LCV sales reached 1,528,146 units compared with 1,478,624 units. OEM sales were 93,742 units versus 88,662 units, taking total domestic sales to 1,621,888 units compared with 1,567,286 units.

Exports during April–January FY26 stood at 361,579 units versus 274,596 units, while total sales were 1,983,467 units compared with 1,841,882 units in the same period last year.
