Veteran actor Suniel Shetty has heaped high praise on Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar, calling the spy action thriller a ‘mindblowing’ cinematic experience. Speaking to Lehren, the actor opened up about watching the film, his long-standing association with Aditya Dhar, and why Dhurandhar left a lasting impression on him.

Mindblowing film, I felt.” He went on to explain the personal connection that made the experience even more significant for him. Sunil revealed that he was earlier set to collaborate with Aditya Dhar on The Immortal Ashwatthama, a project that eventually got shelved despite all formalities being completed. Reflecting on that phase, he added, “I told Aditya that, because I was to play a role in Aditya’s Ashwatthama (The Immortal Ashwatthama). Shelve ho gayi, signing ho gaya, sab kuchh ho gaya. Toh jab maine Dhurandhar dekhi toh I said, ‘Yaar I wish I could be a part of it’.”

Suniel also offered a nuanced take on the performances in the film, highlighting how perspectives can differ when it comes to standout acts. While audiences have been raving about Akshaye Khanna, Sunil felt that both the director and lead actor left an even stronger impact on him. “And see, nazariya hai sabka dekhne ka. Sab ko Akshaye Khanna bohot achha laga. Mujhe Akshaye Khanna bohot achha laga. Lekin mujhe Aditya Dhar aur Ranveer Singh usse bhi zyaada better lage (Everyone has their own perspective. Everyone liked Akshaye Khanna a lot. I liked Akshaye Khanna a lot too. But for me, Aditya Dhar and Ranveer Singh were even better).”

Dhurandhar is a spy action thriller written, co-produced, and directed by Aditya Dhar, and produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aditya Dhar, and Lokesh Dhar under Jio Studios and B62 Studios. The film boasts a powerful ensemble cast featuring Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and R. Madhavan, along with several supporting actors.

Serving as the first instalment of a planned duology, Dhurandhar revolves around a high-stakes covert counter-terrorism operation. A second instalment, which traces the journey of Ranveer Singh’s character Jaskirat Singh Rangi as he transforms into a spy, is slated to hit cinemas on March 19, 2026.

With industry veterans like Suniel Shetty singing its praises, Dhurandhar part 2 is shaping up to be one of the most keenly awaited action spectacles of the year.
