He now joins Mahela Jayawardene in the exclusive list of batters from Sri Lanka to score a ton in the tournament. Jayawardene had scored 100 against Zimbabwe in the 2010 edition.
Nissanka slammed a match-defining century off just 52 balls as Sri Lanka defeated Australia by eight wickets and also qualified for the Super Eights.
The opening batter is also the first centurion of the 2026 T20 World Cup. He hit five sixes and 10 fours during his 52-ball innings and remained unbeaten in 182-run chase.
This is Nissanka’s second T20I century, becoming the first Sri Lankan batter to achieve this milestone. His first T20I hundred came against India in September 2025, where he scored 107.
