Veteran actor Neena Gupta recently revisited an uncomfortable memory from the shoot of the popular song ‘Choli Ke Peeche’, reflecting on how her perspective has evolved over the years. Speaking on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, she spoke about filmmaker Subhash Ghai asking the costume designer to “make her appear fuller” for the sequence and suggesting that she wear a padded bra.

But now I feel he was just doing his job. He had a certain image in mind for the character in the song, and he expressed it plainly. I was new then — today I understand it differently.”

The actor explained that while the remark initially upset her, with time she has come to view it within the context of filmmaking and character presentation. Her reflection offered insight into how her understanding of creative decisions and professional expectations has matured over the years.

During the same conversation, Neena also opened up about her personal life and marriage to Vivek Mehra. When asked whether she married for love, she offered a candid response, suggesting that marriage can sometimes feel necessary to function comfortably within social structures.

She spoke about the way society perceives single women, saying, “So when I go somewhere, people look at me in a strange way. I don’t enjoy it. I don’t feel comfortable. If you get married, everything seems to become fine. In society, the moment you wear a mangalsutra, people think everything is perfect, even if things are actually falling apart inside. Maybe you’re not even living together, maybe there’s no love, but society assumes you’re now ‘perfect.’”

On the professional front, Neena is currently seen in Vadh 2, which released on February 6. The film co-stars Sanjay Mishra and is backed by filmmaker Luv Ranjan’s production banner.
